Seulavihannes – Farming With Heart, History, and Sustainability

Welcome to Seulavihannes, a Finnish family farm dedicated to growing quality root vegetables with passion and purpose. For us, farming is more than just a livelihood—it’s a way of life shaped by tradition, love for the land, and continuous innovation. Every carrot, swede, and grain we cultivate is a reflection of the care and craftsmanship that defines Seulavihannes.

OUR STORY

From Humble Beginnings

In 1989, the Virtanen family established what is now known as Seulavihannes. The farm’s founder, Antti Virtanen, played a central role in developing the business from a small family farm into one of Finland’s leading carrot producers. His vision, dedication, and determination laid the strong foundation on which today’s operations are built.

Equally essential to this journey is Elina Virtanen, who has been involved from the very beginning. Her contribution to the farm – both in daily work and decision-making – has been invaluable. Elina remains actively involved in the farm’s operations to this day, and her commitment and hands-on approach are a vital part of what makes Seulavihannes what it is.

In 2004, the farm transitioned into a limited liability company, enabling significant investments, particularly in storage and root vegetable processing. This growth has always been a shared family effort, where tradition and innovation go hand in hand.

The children – Eero, Eeva, Anni, and Aino – have grown up immersed in the farm’s daily life, learning the values of agriculture from an early age. Today, Eero Virtanen leads the farm, continuing the family’s legacy with the same passion and sense of responsibility that have guided Seulavihannes from the start.

Now, Seulavihannes operates with modern equipment and a skilled team. Our root vegetables – especially carrots – are carefully stored in large cold facilities, then sorted, peeled, and packaged for delivery to wholesalers and industrial kitchens across Finland.

So when you pick up a bag of soup vegetables or a traditional holiday casserole from the store, there’s a good chance you’re enjoying the harvest from our carrot farm.

CROP PRODUCTION

GRAINS ALONGSIDE ROOT VEGETABLES

At Seulavihannes, our offering includes more than root vegetables. We also grow nutrient-rich grain on carefully managed fields. This diversification ensures soil health, environmental balance, and year-round agricultural activity.

Each crop is grown with the same attention to quality and sustainability as our flagship products.

SUSTAINABILITY

Seulavihannes – Powered by Solar Energy

In 2019, we took a leap toward sustainable farming by installing solar panels to power a significant portion of our operations. With energy needs of over 400,000 kWh annually—mainly for cooling root vegetable storage—solar energy has become a vital part of how Seulavihannes reduces its carbon footprint.

Our panels are positioned in three directions to maximize daily output, helping us run everything from refrigeration to processing equipment with clean, renewable energy.
